The Rafa Nadal Academy has officially incorporated pickleball into its facilities, expanding its sports offerings and hosting high-profile events in this emerging sport. In December 2023, the academy hosted the first Mediterranean Open, a tournament that attracted over 200 players from across Europe.
For this event, the academy inaugurated its first pickleball court, marking a milestone in promoting the sport in the region.
Luis de Cristóbal, director of the Rafa Nadal Academy, emphasized the academy’s vision of integrating pickleball with community and lifestyle, reinforcing its position as one of the world’s leading racquet sports institutions.
The Mediterranean Open featured traditional categories such as singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, as well as an inclusive category called “No Limits,” designed for athletes with intellectual and physical disabilities. This initiative highlights the academy’s commitment to inclusivity and the expansion of pickleball in Europe.
The addition of pickleball at the Rafa Nadal Academy reflects the growing popularity of the sport and the academy’s dedication to offering a diverse range of athletic disciplines to its members and visitors.
